Wrangell–St. Elias – Alaska’s Largest National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
To the east of Anchorage lies Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve, which links with Glacier Bay National Park, Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge and Canada’s Kluane National Park to form the largest protected area on the planet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wrangell–St. Elias alone is larger than Switzerland and is home to enormous icefields, countless glaciers, towering mountains and even a still-smoking volcano.
