Girdwood enjoys its status as Alaska’s only true resort town and features in a number of our Alaska road trips and Alaska rail vacations. Just 30 minutes south of Anchorage, it is home to Alyeska Resort, good restaurants and year-round outdoor adventures.

A classic experience is to ride the Alyeska Tram to the 2,300-foot level for sweeping views over Turnagain Arm and surrounding glaciers. In winter, skiers and snowboarders head downhill; in summer, visitors come for hiking, dining and dramatic mountain scenery.
